The Jasper County Republicans, in cooperation with the Jasper County Democrats, are hosting a chili cookoff “Souper Bowl” at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army, 301 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton.
Members of each party are providing their favorite chili and desserts which will be judged by local “celebrity” judges. Local elected officials will be serving the chili.
The public is invited to attend, eat some chili and dessert with their free will offering for the food pantry and enjoy some bi-partisan fellowship. The food pantry is in need of canned soups, fruits and vegetables, cereal, spaghetti noodles and sauce, macaroni and cheese and ramen noodles.
The parties will have a contest to see who can build the biggest structure with their donated items and a pie in the face contest featuring the county chairs.
